Usabilla raises $1 million to make user-feedback tools
Usabilla, a Dutch startup producing web site usability tools, raised $1 million Wednesday in a round led by local venture fund Boralis and five undisclosed investors in Europe and the U.S.
Usabilla helps marketers, analysts and designers define usability tests and collect user feedback. Reviewers can make notes on a webpage and add colored pins to show whether they find particular page elements appealing or not. Aggregate results are summarized in charts and heat maps.
The company’s customers include Disney, Levi’s and Electronic Arts and the new funding will be used to expand the customer base and add features to test new platforms including mobile, tablets and television.
A key part of designing web sites is determining how customers are responding to a site and why. User testing can show whether visitors are responding to the design and the content.
As the test results to the right show, the problem users are having with the sample web site is the leopard print (or at least it should be).
Usabilla’s competitors include UserTesting, Kampyle and remote testing services Feedback Army and Loop 11. Its subscription fees range from free to $129 a month for tests involving up to 200 participants. Usabilla was founded in 2009 and has 12 employees.
